What Not To Paint Your House: Worst Colors
There’s dozens of great color palettes and paint guides out there to help you pick the right shade for your house. But what about the worst colors for your home? Learn which ones to avoid here.
1. The World’s Ugliest Color
Pantone’s signature, tried, and tested ‘Opaque Couche’ has been officially dubbed the ugliest color in the world. For fairly obvious reasons this is a color you should avoid putting on your walls at all costs!
In addition to just being ugly, dark colors like this can make places feel smaller, show dust and dirt easier, and feel just overall oppressive.

2. Obnoxiously Bright Yellows
Paler yellows are probably a better option if you’re looking to include a cheerful uplifting shade in your home palette. Bold bright yellows, however, have been shown in studies to make people feel anxious and distressed. Politely described as ‘overbearing’, bright yellows belong as highlight or accent colors only.

3. Bright And Overpowering Reds
Red is a great choice for an accent wall, and deep reds can give a great sense of ambiance to most rooms. Bright reds like poppy red, however, have been shown through color psychology to cause people to feel irritated and even angry! Your home is your place to relax, use bright and light happy colors if neutrals aren’t your thing.
