9 Steps To Painting Kitchen Cabinets Like A Pro
1. Inspect Your Cabinets In The Kitchen
In this section, you will find any damages or wear. Before painting, you should repair any damage. When you paint over damage, the paint will wear out more quickly.
2. Removing And Labeling The Drawer Faces And Doors
Using a cordless drill or screwdriver is the easiest option. The door should be the first step followed by the hinges and then the handles. In the hinge hole, you can place a number, and on the inside of the cabinet, you can place the same number.
Assign a number to a bag and put hinges, handles, screws, etc. Into it. Then it will be easier to put it back together.
3. Spread Drop Cloths
You don’t want to remove paint that wasn’t supposed to be there. It is difficult to clean paint from fabric, especially if it gets on it. It’s possible to prevent this from occurring and make cleanup quicker and easier with drop cloths.
4. Make Sure The Cabinets Are Clean
Our preferred method is to mix denatured alcohol and Crud Kutter. Cleaning the paint will remove dirt, oils, and other things that could cause it to peel more rapidly.
5. Use Light Sandpaper To Smooth Out Your Cabinets
Rather than using fine and medium sanding sponges, we suggest vacuuming them afterward. This will give the paint more traction. The paint will stick better and last longer this way.
6. Prepare Your Kitchen Cabinets By Priming Them
It is always a good idea to use a bonding primer. A bonding primer is specially formulated to ensure two things: that it sticks and that it adheres to its surface. The price is higher because it is engineered to perform better.
Apply it with a brush and mini roller. You might see marks from the roller or brush if you press in too hard. Whenever it occurs, lightly roll or brush over the primer while it is still wet to remove the excess primer.
7. Review The Primer
This will determine if it needs to be lightly sanded. You may wish to lightly sand it and then clear it to remove any dust.
8. Paint Cabinets In Your Kitchen Like A Pro
Priming should be done in the same manner. To achieve good coverage and appearance, two coats should be sufficient. Read the label of each paint can to find out how long it takes for each coat to dry.
Paint the cabinet doors and drawers the same way. Take care not to get stipples (small dots and flecks). If it dries like this, it will leave a texture on the cabinets.
9. Give Your Cabinets Time To Cure After Painting Them
You will need to let your kitchen cabinets cure for two weeks if you want the finest finish.
